"He helped the team that opened the first foreign hotel in China in the early ‘80’s – the Hilton in Shanghai. He then held several jobs, mostly in the airline business, before joining TNT a few months before I arrived. TNT had just purchased its first 747, and we eagerly sought Paul’s advice to optimize the value of our investment. An empty flight literally represented hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses, but Paul managed to fill our plane to its capacity of well over 100 tons consistently from the first day of operation. Sometimes working like a madman, he taught all of us along the way just how he did it.."
Paul about "In China, We Trust"
What do you think of having your story in the book?
I am extremely honored to not only have been selected to be in the book itself, but to have a unique distinction of being the only "lao wai". We were energized, and perhaps those who read these individual stories can gain some of the spirit which drove us.
What do you think about what we have done with TNT?
We took TNT to a different level, because the group energy was in unison and was focused. To achieve the level we reached, however, it also took the right leadership....and a lot of it. Without the leadership and the spirit of the people to join the mission, we could not have achieved the results. Because of this, we achieved what many other companies only dream of.
What do you think other companies can benefit from the approach TNT took?
Other institutions can read about others' success and spirit, however, to achieve it is another story. Benefit by believing, then finding the right path which works for you.
